College of Engineering students have access to direct support with a Student Support and Outreach Coordinator. 

You must be a College of Engineering student to access this support.

Support provided

Contact the Student Support and Outreach Coordinator if:

  • You are in distress or crisis
  • You feel you would benefit from general wellness advising and support
  • You are experiencing thoughts of/behaviours involving suicide
  • You are hospitalized for any reason
  • You are experiencing something difficult and complex and feel you need help

The Student Support and Outreach Coordinator offers:

  • Immediate practical support
  • Education
  • Coaching
  • Mentorship
  • Crisis intervention and management
  • Wellness support and advising
  • Problem-solving
  • Resource navigation
  • Referrals to on and off-campus resources

Coordinator bio

Jamie Gegner

My name is Jamie Gegner and I have dedicated 14 years to social work, driven by a strong passion for assisting others.  

I work as part of the Student Affairs and Outreach team. My role is to work directly with Engineering students, where my focus is on connecting with students and ensuring they have access to all available support.

Teaching students about mental wellness and equipping them with tools to sustain their well-being is an important part my role.

Resources for faculty and staff

The Student Support and Outreach Coordinator can also support  College of Engineering staff and faculty who are concerned about a student.

Possible signs of distress

  • If a student has had a change in appearance, mood, and/or social functioning
  • A student's behaviour impacts another person’s ability to function appropriately and successfully on campus
  • If a student has expressed thoughts of suicide SEEK HELP IMMEDIATELY
  • If a student has attempted suicide or you believe them to be a threat to themselves SEEK HELP IMMEDIATELY
  • The student is misusing substances and it is causing others concern
  • The student is displaying odd behaviour that is causing others concern

 If the student is at imminent risk

  • Call the Saskatoon Police Service 911 or 9-911 (on campus)
  • Walk them over to Royal University Hospital, 103 Hospital Drive
  • Call Campus Protective Services at (306) 966-5555

Services include immediate support to students, crisis response, educational programming, and consultation with faculty, staff, and students who are concerned about a student.

USask Student Wellness Centre

The USask Student Wellness Centre offers medical and mental health care to USask students and their dependents. Chiropractic, physiotherapy and massage appointments are available to USask students, staff, and faculty.

Empower Me

Empower Me is a confidential mental health and wellness service available 24/7, 365 days a year. It is a third-party service available provided by the University of Saskatchewan Students’ Union and the USask Graduate Students’ Association. As a USask student you can access it for free.
